The Joys Of Working From Home

This morning I planted a beech hedge before work!

We needed to plant a hedge due to moving a shed on a boundary, it had left a big gap.  The beech whips will establish their roots over winter.  I look forward to seeing the new leaves in the spring.

We have other changes going on in the garden over the next month.  A garden office will be built under our large Lime tree.  Does anyone else work from home?  Do you find it liberating or distracting?

  1. I used to work from home and found that you have to be very disciplined indeed. Working in a room with not much of a view was bad enough - well, it has lovely pictures and a wall of books to distract me! - but I think I would find working in an office in the garden just too distracting! Though I love the idea...

    1. I think it will be easy in the winter to keep on track, but I am worried come the nice weather I will be tempted by the swing, the trampoline and an easy chair....

  2. I sometimes daydream of being able to work from home but know I'd spend too long faffing.

    1. I do faff, but I also enjoy working to a deadline, no matter how unfeasably near it is #winwin!

  3. I worked from home for a short while and loved not having to join the rush to work every morning but I did miss the cameraderie of working with other people. I used a bedroom upstairs to work in but I love the thought of a garden office, I think I would find that quite distracting at times but quite inspiring too:)

    1. I will report on the change over, I hope the Muntjac deer continue to visit our garden, and my presence doesn't scare them away.

  4. Your beech hedge looks wonderful and I bet it will grow well and fast too. I also would spend far too long procrastinating if I worked from home. Or wandering into the kitchen! x

    1. Yes Sarah, tea, biscuits, magazines, washing... It's surprising how my mind tries to sabotage good intentions!

    1. Today has been brilliant, it's so cold and horrid out, and I've been in all day (well apart from the dentist appointment but that doesn't count!)

  6. A beech hedge, how lovely. I'd love to work from home but I wouldn't be able to stop filling the washing machine up!

  7. I am a housewife and I adore being at home, although I can get too engrossed in a book, forget the time, then try & rush around like a headless chicken before tea time!

  11. I used to work from home in a small room off the kitchen where the contents of the biscuit tin called to me through the doorway! I could work for hours without interruption in poor weather but once the sun was out it was very difficult to stay at my desk. I loved being home, with the freedom to wander round the garden during my coffee break, but deadlines could always keep me in check.
