We managed to tear ourselves away from London between the olympics and the para olympics for a train trip to Italy. We took the train from St Pancras to Zurich, then on to Milan through the Alps where we passed opaque glacial green lakes, trimmed with picturesque wooden chalets. Next stop was Rome. We visited the ancient sights and ate lots of gelati. Our last leg took us up into the hills where we enjoyed the sun and devoured a ton of fiction.
It has been the most amazing, memorable summer living so near London. I hope you enjoyed yours, happy September.
I have always wanted to visited Europe further afield by train - it sounds so enjoyable and relaxing! Rome is one of my favourite cities
ReplyDeleteThank you Meghan, it was relaxing, and nice to hand over the reigns and just watch the scenery go by.
DeleteSounds wonderful. It has indeed been an amazing & memorable summer. Have just loved the Olympics & Paralympics.
ReplyDeleteOur town just got a gold postbox thanks to Naomi Riches the para olympic rower, it has been so inspirational. I am going to trade in my 20 year old bike and get pedalling, I might even knit myself a yellow jersey (only way I'm ever gonna wear one!)
DeleteHow wonderful to travel through all those wonderful places by train. It sounds as if you have had a truly memorable summer:)
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosie, I need to keep those photos to remind me on cold winter days.
DeleteSounds like a great trip - train travel is the best. Both the Olympics & Paralympics have been fantastic. I've absolutely loved watching them (mainly on TV) & being in London this summer.
ReplyDeleteIt will be like the day after the night before when the olympic show finally rolls out of town, I hope the last night goes with a bang. We've been so lucky it has been so positive and trouble free.
DeleteWow, how cool ~ sounds amazing. Any good books you would recommend? Happy September to you too!
ReplyDeleteSarah -x-
Thank you Sarah, I wouldn't recommend some of the stuff I read over the summer (I'll read anything when I've run out of my own books.....) but I can recommend 3 Cups Of Tea by Greg Mortenson.
DeleteWhat a wonderful holiday - so pleased you had a great time (esp. the gelati - yum!) And thank you for hopping on over to follow my new blog too! x
ReplyDeleteA pleasure Sarah, lots of Sarah's on here today...my name is Sarah too.
DeleteThat sounds a great way to travel, my husband's family are from a town in Tuscany just south of Florence. We go every year and I just love everything about the place. Loving your blog.
ReplyDeleteI would love an excuse to go to Italy every year, they have such a great attitude towards life, the only time they seem to get stressed is behind the wheel, if the person in front stops!
Deletefantastic! what great shots and I took love Italy. I love your collage too!
ReplyDeletewhat a fab time.....and newly in love with the joy of Europe by train!!
